6. Educators demonstrate a broad knowledge base and an understanding of areas they teach.
I always start with the curriculum to see what I should be preparing for and I go in with a desire to learn. It is important to me that if my class shows an interest in a topic I am covering, I will extend myself to teach them more instead of leaving them disappointed due to stopping at my own knowledge range. I enjoy the use of cross-curricular lessons in these circumstances so we can move on in the curriculum while students continue to enjoy and engage in their own learning. Cross-curricular lessons also improve student’s understanding of the topics I teach by increasing the connections they are able to make to the material.

During my 25% teaching practicum, I learned a lot about electricity due to the interest my class showed in my electricity lesson!
